A mid-size Saudi company with a busy procurement and partnership pipeline was reviewing dozens of contracts a month by hand. The work was slow, and the results depended on who did the review.
We built ContractIQ for them. It reads contracts in Arabic and English, flags risky clauses, compares terms against the company's own standards and suggests revisions. All of that happens before a lawyer opens the document.
The problem
Contract review is expensive, and mistakes in it are expensive too. This legal team had four specific issues:
- Vendor and partnership agreements came in faster than the team could review them.
- There was no shared standard for what counted as an acceptable clause.
- Contracts arrived in Arabic, English or both. Different reviewers handled different languages, and they applied different standards.
- Junior staff didn't have the experience to spot risks that weren't obvious.
What we built
Contract ingestion and parsing
The system parses PDF and DOCX files and keeps their structure: sections, clauses and schedules.
Arabic and English contracts go through the same pipeline. Each contract is split into clauses, and each clause gets a type tag such as liability, payment, IP or termination.
Risk flagging
Every clause gets a risk level: High, Medium, Low or Standard.
The benchmark is the client's own library of previously approved contracts, not a generic rulebook. Typical flags include:
- One-sided liability caps
- Ambiguous jurisdiction clauses
- Missing termination rights
- Non-standard payment terms
Revision suggestions
For each flagged clause, the system writes alternative language that matches the client's internal standard, along with a short explanation of why.
Lawyers accept, edit or reject each suggestion with one click. Every suggestion is tied to the rule that triggered it, so there's a full audit trail.
Review workflow
The legal team works from a dashboard that shows each contract's status, risk score and flagged items.
When they're done, they export to Word with tracked changes. The final review stays with the lawyer.
We also run BEval Studio on every batch to track the quality of the suggestions over time.
Results
| Metric | Result |
|---|---|
| Review cycle, standard vendor agreements | About 3 days down to about 4 hours |
| Risk coverage | Catches 90%+ of the clause types the team used to flag manually |
| Suggestions accepted as-is | About 72% |
| Adoption | Every incoming contract goes through ContractIQ before human review |
The lawyers still make the final call. They just start from a marked-up contract instead of a blank read.
The client's name is withheld under NDA. ContractIQ is in production in Saudi Arabia.
